Welcome to Nokken, the Norwegian Forest Cats’ Breeding

Hello!!!
First of all, thank you for visiting our site! My name is Monica and I live in Bologna (Italy) with my family composed by my little son Mattia and my daughter Valentina, my partner Leo, my six cats called Sahteene, Arien, Byron, Polo, Monet and Wiebke, and my dog Mila, a black and white mongrel.

There is also a part of the family which is decentralized because of lack of space: a fantastic female horse, Astra, a fine sorrel horse, Melody and a sweet little palomino horse, Forrest Gump. All of them live in a riding centre at the foot of Appennino, near Bologna.
The idea of a breeding of Nowegian Forest Cats is first due to love of these animals (and of all animals generally speking) which has always been a characteristic of my family, but it is thanks to my friend Claudia, who has been living for several years with a Norwegian cat, that first I became acquainted with this breed (unfortunately not so much known-how unjust!).
Since then, my curiosity mostly for the nature and the characteristics of Norwegian Forest Cats has grown, so I began making researches on internet for more information, photos, and news about breeding centres. Doing this, I fell in love with my first Norwegian cat, Arien, coming from Valinor’s breeding near Bologna, that some later joined our family. My thanks to the owner of this breeding, Francesca Maria, who was very helpful during the process of integration of the kitten within our family.
Arien is admirable for her sweetness, beauty and delicacy; her mysterious look hypnotizes anybody who meets her. When she first joined our family, she was welcomed by Sahteene, my daughter’s one-year-old mongrel yellow-green eyed white cat. She was a present of a friend of mine, Patrizia. Not only did Sahteene accepted the new kitten friendly, but she also was a true mother to Arien.
I completely fell in love with the adopted kitten and so shortly after I started thinking over the way I could make people know Norwegian cats. After getting in touch with many lovers of this breed, when I saw a very beautiful kitten, Byron, adopted some later by Nordmore’s breeding in Rome, the idea of a cattery of my own suddenly came to me. By the way, I want to express my thanks to Carmen, Nordmore’s owner, whose advices about how to become a good breeder were very useful to me.
We chose for our cattery the Norwegian name of Nokken because, in the Norwegian mythology, it means “Spirite of the waters”, a character of nordic mythology, like trolls, fairies and elves, which used to inhabit rivers and falls.
The Norwegian Forest Cat loves water and his natural habitat is the forest, full of waterways, a perfect scenery for magic creatures such as elves and fairies, hidden in gorges, caves and mysterious trees.

I istinctively happened to imagine this charming cat among these creatures; the mythology indeed reserved to this breed a very respectable place beside a goddess. I hope that you too will make such a special experience and that you will be able to establish such an important relation with your animals, as I did with mines. I have founded this breeding to offer everybody the opportunity to know this splendid, intelligent and sensitive cat.
I thank you for the attention you paid to my words and I hope that you will have found pleasure reading the story of my personal experience, and that it could communicate you something.
I owe a special thank-you to my veterinary Paolo Bertozzi, who professionally takes care of our dear cats with all her love.
Monica &. C.
